First French edition, additional engraved title, portrait of the author and another of Charles XI both by Blesendorff and 9 (out of 10) single-page engraved portraits and all 155 double-page or folding engraved plates and maps. Bound in cont. full calf, with gilt spines and boards. Bottom of spine on vol. 1 lightly damaged and some wear to hinges.
The first French edition of the history of the Swedish wars. With Scandinavia's largest engraving, depicting the funeral ceremony of King Carl X Gustav. The double-page battle-pieces and war maps were engraved from the original drawings by Erik Dahlberg, who was the Quarter-Master General of the Swedish army.
